Privacy Policy

We, the developers of Noted. app (“Noted.”), value your privacy and will uphold the highest standards to protect it. By using Noted. or by visiting our website, you acknowledge that you accept the practices and policies outlined in this Privacy Policy.

Noted. and the website may contain links to other sites or products and we are not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices of other companies. When linking to another company, you should read that company’s privacy policy.

What information do we collect?

When you use Noted., the app automatically sends us:

  • Crash reports and diagnostics: what went wrong, along with your device model, operating system version and app version.
  • Usage information: which screens and features are used, how long sessions last, and when a purchase is made.
  • A random identifier for your installation of Noted., so that crashes and usage can be counted per installation. It is not linked to your name, email address or contact details, and it changes if you reinstall the app.

We use this information in aggregate, as a statistical measure, and not to identify you personally. On the website, data on device type, operating system and how pages are used is collected in the same way.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address or contact details in Noted. or on the website. We never receive your audio recordings, and we do not have access to content you create in Noted. or to files you import into Noted., apart from the text you choose to send for an AI summary (see below). Your work is your information.

Your recordings and notes

Your recordings, notes and transcripts are stored on your device. If you turn on iCloud sync, they are also stored in your own private iCloud account, which only you can access. They are never sent to us.

  • Transcription runs on your device, using Apple’s on-device speech recognition or a Whisper model downloaded to your device. On older versions of iOS and macOS, and for dictation, Noted. uses Apple’s speech recognition, which may send audio to Apple to be processed under Apple’s Privacy Policy.
  • Speaker identification is off until you turn it on, and it runs on your device. To tell voices apart, it creates a voice print for each speaker in a recording: a set of numbers describing how that voice sounds. When you give a speaker a name, Noted. keeps that voice print with your notes so it can recognise the same person in later recordings. Voice prints are stored only on your device and in your private iCloud, and we never receive them. Deleting a recording deletes its voice prints, except those saved under a speaker’s name, which are kept until you delete that speaker.
  • Ask AI runs on your device, using Apple’s on-device model.
  • AI summaries are made only when you ask for one. Noted. then sends the text of that note and its transcript, never the audio, through our server to Google Gemini, which writes the summary and returns it to your device. We don’t keep a copy of that text, and it is not used to train AI models.

Recording other people

If you record other people, you are responsible for telling them and for getting their consent wherever the law requires it. Recording laws differ between countries and states. Noted. does not notify anyone that a recording is being made. Our Terms of Use set out what this means.

What we do with the information?

Information collected is solely used to fix problems and to develop and improve the user experience and the product or website. It is used in aggregate, and we do not use it to identify you. We neither rent nor sell any information that we collect.

Third-party services

Noted. uses Google Gemini to write AI summaries. When you ask for a summary, the text of that note and its transcript is sent, encrypted in transit, through our server to Google, which processes it on our behalf to produce the summary. We don’t store the text, and it is not used for training. No audio is ever sent.

Noted. uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to collect the crash reports, diagnostics and usage information described above. Google processes this information on our behalf and keeps it encrypted in transit.

Purchases of Noted+ are processed by Google Play or the App Store. We never receive your payment details; Noted. only checks with the store which purchases belong to your store account, so it can unlock what you have bought and restore it on a new device.

Email Communications

If we receive an email from you or a communication via a social network, we use that information to best serve you through the channel which you contacted us.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. Use of information we collect now is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such information is used. If we make changes in the way we use information, we will update this page. Users are bound by any changes to the Privacy Policy when he or she uses the product or website after such changes have been first posted.
