Whether you’re studying online or working from home, Zoom is a must-have tool.
However, if you’re a notetaker like us, you know how tricky it is to take notes during a Zoom call: If you don’t have two monitors/devices ready to go, you have to juggle a note-taking app on one side of the screen and Zoom on the other… Either way your notes and recording are stored separately, which makes reviewing them inconvenient.
Or, you could just use Noted’s Screen Recording, which records your Zoom call straight into a note while you type. Your notes and the video end up in the same place, time-stamped to each other, ready to review in one app.
This guide used to describe our Zoom integration and its companion app, Noted Mission Control. Screen Recording has replaced both: it is built into the Noted Mac app, needs nothing extra installed, and works with any meeting app, not just Zoom.
Before You Start
Screen Recording is included on every plan, free trial included. Your Mac needs to be running macOS Sonoma (14) or later.
You don’t need permission from the meeting host to record, so this works whether or not it’s your call.
How to Start Recording and Take Notes
1. Start or join your Zoom meeting.
2. In Noted, open the note you want to use, or create a new one, and click the Screen Recording icon in the toolbar, next to the Transcribe icon.
3. Choose your recording settings, such as the screen or window to capture, and start recording with a single click. Noted captures the screen, its audio and your microphone.
4. Take notes as usual: everything you type is time-stamped to the recording, you can add #TimeTags, and everything works exactly the same way as in any other note.
How to Use the Notes and Recording
When the meeting ends, stop the recording and hit Play to relive all your Zoom moments. Tap a timestamp in your notes to jump to the moment each point was made.
The recording stays with the note, so you can review it on your Mac or in the Noted iOS app.
